Pray for the Jews

Prayer for the Jews

On September 20, 2011, the United Nations (UN) meets in New York, and Palestinian Authorities plan to officially seek statehood by presenting a resolution to be recognized as a sovereign state. Along with full membership in the UN, such a new state may claim Israeli borders that prevailed before 1967. State recognition may include the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem. The move has the backing of more than two-thirds of the UN’s members. The nation of Israel currently occupies East Jerusalem and has declared all of Jerusalem as its undivided eternal capital. The final decision could uphold some serious consequences to both Israel and America. The U.S. has an option to veto a Palestinian request for state recognition and produce a halt in this endeavour. Pray for God’s divine intervention in these matters and that His perfect will be done, based on His desired outcome. It is important that we pray for Israel. The Bible exhorts us to pray for the Jews. Following is powerful insight on how to specifically pray for the Jews as we approach this end-time hour.

Pray For the Jews

The following recounts a vision I had on February 8, 1964, at 3:30 in the afternoon. I was not asleep; the sun was shining brightly. I was not deep in prayer or seeking any certain thing from God at that moment. Suddenly I was in a vision and began to hear multitudes praying, weeping, and rejoicing. Many of the voices I could hear audibly in my room and the sound went on like the sound of many waters. I cried out, “Oh, Lord! What does this mean?” I looked to my right and there stood the Lord Jesus Christ looking straight at me with such love and compassion. He began to speak to me about the Jews. He said, “PRAY FOR THE JEWS.”

I thought it strange – He being God and asking me to pray for the Jews. Then I remembered He prayed for the Jews often and so did the Apostle Paul. I did not realize that I was hearing the Jews as they broke through to the Wailing Wall after the Six-Day War. Since that time, I have been led to pray every time Israel has been in grave danger.

I asked the Lord how to pray for salvation for the Jews. He spoke to me and said, “PRAY THEY WILL DREAM I AM THE MESSIAH.” Later…At the General Conference in Birmingham, Alabama…A Jewish Rabbi…stated that…he had a dream: The sky was full of stars, and a voice spoke out of the stars and said ‘I am the Messiah you have looked for, and my name is Jesus.’ “He told me he had talked to many Rabbis all over the world and they had the same dream – a voice spoke from the stars saying, ‘I am the Messiah, the one you have waited for. I am Jesus.’”

While in prayer, the Lord again spoke to me to pray that the Jews would remember Leviticus 19:28: “Ye shall not make cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.” Satan has tried to destroy the Jews, the seed of Abraham, for two thousand years. The mark of the beast is his last effort. The promise of the one thousand years millennium could not be fulfilled as prophesied if every Jew takes the mark of the beast. God would then have to destroy them. (Revelation 14:9-10). However…this will never happen because we read in John 10:35: “… the scripture cannot be broken.”

So the Lord has told me three ways to pray:
1.) Pray for all Jews worldwide.
2.) Pray they will dream Jesus is the Messiah.
3.) Pray they will remember Leviticus 19:28.

My request is that each church forms a prayer group to pray for the Jews. Use the three points listed above as a guide. Genesis 12:1-3 promises a blessing for those who do: “and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing; and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee…”

Anointed to Pray

“It’s time for me to go. Tell me what I can do for you before I leave,” Elijah instructed Elisha.

“Give me a double portion of your spirit!” Elisha did not have to think twice (2 Kings 2:9, paraphrased).

Reading Elisha’s request causes a stirring, deep in the spirit of a saint of God. We all long for a “double portion.” Have you ever stopped to consider what Elisha’s life and ministry may have been like had he not relentlessly dogged Elijah? Perhaps monotony and mediocrity would have been his existence; we will never know.

Elisha’s persistence paid off. Elijah’s mantle became his, and with it all the power and anointing of the former prophet. Doesn’t that create a desire within you to ask God for more? Oh, to have a double portion of the power to pray, to have an anointing to pray!
Although we may follow a specific prayer schedule each day, there are times when we feel an anointing – a drawing – a quickening in our spirit. We recognize His tug on our hearts. His soft, gentle voice calls us nearer. At that moment, we are faced with a decision. We can abandon our schedule and submit our will to His, or we can give God a “rain check” and hope that He will be content to wait until it is convenient for us.

The Bible speaks of the “fulness of time,” or a season – a moment, when everything is conducive for the miraculous (Galatians 4:4; Ephesians 1:10). We can miss Him. It is not that we cannot talk to the Lord at any time, but the “anointing” to pray may have passed. What would have been powerful and timely becomes difficult and duty. If only we would always be quick to respond! “When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek” (Psalm 27:8). The Psalmist must have faced this same struggle. But he made a commitment to pray when he felt prompted by God.

Our lack of response does not thwart the plan of God. But perhaps another person may reap the harvest that God intended to place in our hands. Time and again, we stand on the precipice of the supernatural. We are on the brink of a powerful encounter with God Almighty, yet we are prone to place Him on the “back burner.” A mumbled, “I love You. Gotta run! Catch you later!” replaces a passionate, red hot interaction in the Spirit.
God longs to involve us in all that He is doing. We are invited to go beyond dangling our toes in the streams of His Spirit. He is calling us to plunge wholeheartedly into a river where there are “waters to swim in!” (Ezekiel 47:5)

“Deep calleth unto deep” (Psalm 42:7). The choice is ours today. We determine the level of power and anointing that operates in our ministries and the depth of our walk with the Lord. Paul exhorted Timothy to “stir up the gift of God” (2 Timothy 1:6), and “neglect not the gift that is in thee” (1 Timothy 4:14). We can fan the flames of the fire resident within us.

“I give myself unto prayer,” David said (Psalm 109:4). Daily the choice is ours. God’s plan and purpose will always be accomplished. The question is whether we will be a participant. Making ourselves available to God – to be quick to respond, kindles the anointing – the anointing to pray!

WORLD NEEDS
Global Food Supply…. an Escalating Crisis

As poignant images of suffering in East Africa fill media outlets, millions more people worldwide are going hungry as the price of basic foods soar. Earlier this year, global food prices hit their highest ceiling since they were first measured in 1990.

The causes are varied. Natural disasters, such as droughts, are hitting harvests. Climate change is affecting crop yields. Demand for more varied diets in countries like China, and a growing market for biofuels, are straining limited resources like land and water. Oil price hikes have pushed up food and market transportation costs.

The effects are stark. Globally, the price of maize is 105 per cent higher than last year and wheat prices are 80 per cent higher than July 2010. The following countries are worst hit with on-going local food insecurity: Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Niger, Chad, Afghanistan and Bolivia.

Food prices in Uganda, Burundi, Bangladesh and Honduras are unstable and the situation could quickly deteriorate, while Sudan, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Mali, Burkina Faso and India are potential problem areas.

Meanwhile, news reports suggest Somalia’s plight is worsening as militant groups block aid from getting into stricken areas and stop people leaving to seek out aid.

Please pray for all those who go to bed each night with empty stomachs and for the political will (local, national and global) to change this situation.
Pray for agencies working in East Africa: for God to give wisdom and strength to get aid where it is most needed.
Ask for good harvests all over the world to bring down food prices and to prevent millions more people being pushed into poverty.
Pray for donor governments to invest in small-scale agriculture over the long term to build resilience to recurring droughts and high food prices.
Pray the church will be able to minister to those in need……both physically and spiritually.
Pray for Compassion Services International (a UPCI sponsored organization) as they try to provide aid where needed.

Wake Up Call!

“But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.” I Thessalonians 5:4-6

Monday, August 8, 2011 appeared to be an ordinary morning upon awakening, after my alarm clock sounded, then entering into prayer as usual. Afterwards, I got ready for the day and proceeded to do a little morning housework, when suddenly the Spirit of God unexpectedly swept into my midst in a holy visitation, then a spirit of deep travail and intercession gripped me. As I yielded to the burden of the Lord and this divine call to prayer for a period of time, the Lord emphatically spoke to my heart, “My People are asleep. The Church is asleep. Do They not know how late the hour is? My coming is near.” God has issued His Own Wake Up Call!

Naturally, a “wake up call” may be defined as a telephone call that one requests to occur at a specific time in order to be woken up. Hotel guests often have the privilege of requesting a “wake up call,” to ensure awakening at a designated time. This is one manner in which the phrase is used. Another usage of the terminology “wake up call” means a warning to take action concerning something that was neglected, or a sign that alerts one to negative behavior or circumstances. Such a sign or defining point alerts us and gets our attention. This often is a pivotal point in life that causes one to awake and refocus to reality and what is relevant. In this case, thus this article, the Wake Up Call is one alerting us to prepare for the veracity of eternity.

Let us not be at the precipice of the coming of the Lord, recorded as a people not fully awake. Wake up and truly realize that the time is short and we must watch and pray, for we cannot hit the spiritual snooze button lest a spirit of sleep or slumber overtake us. The Apostle Paul in Romans 13:11 states “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep…” We are living in the end times and Bible prophecy is quickly being fulfilled and it is time to awake! In this scripture Paul is talking to Christians and he references the word “sleep.” He uses the Greek word from which the English word derived is “hypnosis” one that means “to be drowsy.” Paul is identifying believers who were in an apathetic or lethargic spiritual “daze.”

I Peter 4:7 relays “But the end of all things is at hand…” so, it is exhorted “…be you therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.” Note, this means to have a high degree of alertness. In Matthew 26:40-41, Jesus returned and found the disciples sleeping, He then asked Peter, “What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” If even ever more,NOW is the TIME to watch and pray!

The Herald of Free Enterprise, a vehicle ferry, was traveling between Dover, England and Zeebrugge, Belgium on March 6, 1987. The entire front of the ship opened so cars/trucks could be loaded onto the lower decks. One winter night, with the vehicles loaded and 563 passengers on board, Captain Lewry began to set sail. It was 7:00 p.m. and dark, and all was well in the sheltered harbor. However, one mile out, when they hit high seas, the ship capsized in 90 seconds and sank within five minutes, and 193 people drowned. The ship had set to sea with its front loading doors wide open. There was no indicator light displayed on the bridge. The Captain assumed that the Seaman responsible for closing the doors had already done so. Instead, he was asleep in his cabin. Because this Seaman was asleep on the job, 193 people died.

Let’s shake ourselves and not succumb to sleep and get lost in our temporal dreams that may eventually turn into nightmares if we are not ready at the coming of the Lord. This Clarion Call has sounded that the Lord is coming soon, and we must not be asleep. Let us pray that We (Church) all wake up in this Hour. WAKE UP…there is a Call from the Throne! Will you answer?

WVNOP Letter to Pastors

West Virginia Network of Prayer

Dear fellow ministers of the WV/ Western MD district,

Greetings in the lovely Name of Jesus. I pray that this letter finds you and your family doing well. My purpose for writing you is to introduce myself as the newly appointed district Prayer Coordinator for West Virginia/Western Md. I am very honored that our district board would consider me for such an important position, as I feel that there are so many others who are much better equipped and more experienced for this most important task. Thank you Pastor Garlitz, Superintendent Hudson, and to the rest of our esteemed board members for showing such confidence in me. I will do my best to serve you and this great district.
Four years ago as a newly elected pastor here in Moorefield, I quickly learned the value of organization and structure. We needed to revive our bus ministry, department leaders needed fresh vision and purpose, and we desperately needed property and a building of our own to have church in. So as Keisha and I began the daunting task of buying new vans, training leaders, and putting together a rather large capital improvement program, we soon learned that there was no amount of talent or training that could have sufficiently prepared us for the task at hand. Above and beyond anything else we needed supernatural guidance to lead us into Apostolic revival. It was during this time of restructuring that I decided to incorporate a prayer department into our church leadership. No differently than a Sunday School department or Youth department has a leader and a team with responsibility and accountability, I decided that the prayer department must have these key elements as well. I soon appointed a trusted elder in our church to head up a Prayer and Outreach department and we put together a prayer team. I also made the decision that this person would not be head of any other church program, but their primary focus would be prayer.
Four years later I can tell you that we have read many books on prayer, I have flown prayer warriors such as Tony Bailey and Lisa Marshal to Moorefield to teach us on the subject of prayer, and we have attended different prayer seminars and meetings. But I am convinced that the key to whatever success we have had and the revival that we’ve experienced was our decision to make prayer a structured and organized major part of our church. The results have been more positive and the dividends more rewarding than I could have ever imagined.
So in my opening letter as your prayer coordinator, I want to encourage you to do the same. Perhaps you don’t have anyone to fill the position of prayer coordinator at this time in your church. If not, then would you be willing as Pastor to fill that role until God provides a man or woman for you? Looking back on those early days of being pastor, if there was anything that I could do over, I would have trained a prayer coordinator and developed a structured and organized prayer program before I tackled anything else. If you have not already done so, please consider organizing a structured prayer program in your church with either you or a trusted elder as its leader. Perhaps your wife could take the lead in this department. Not only would it make a positive impact on your local church, but on the district as a whole. Ultimately, it will help us to create a contact list and put together a district prayer team, so that when a need arises, a team from across the entire district can go to prayer, just like we do in the local church.
I am excited about what God has in store for this great district. If I can be of help to you in any way, or if you have some ideas that might help in our pursuit of prayer, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I want to encourage you to utilize the West Virginia Network of Prayer web page as well. This is a great tool to share your needs and the needs of those in your church, as well as let folks know that you are praying for their needs and give praise reports. God bless you as you work in the Kingdom of God. You will be hearing from me again soon.

In His Service,

Pastor Eugene A. Whetzel

Electric Shock Drowning

Electric Shock Drowning Cause: small melt in the AC hot wire

Note the very small melt in the AC hot wire. This tiny connection between the AC and DC systems was all it took for AC electricity to find a path to the water.

Please pray for the family, and read the article to learn the astounding percent of boats with faulty wiring that poison the water with deadly AC electricity. The following is from Amy Cunningham, mother of the victim. Amy is part of the faculty at Fairmont State University. Thanks to Sister Rachel Claypool for bringing this to our attention.

First, I want to thank all of you for all your well wishes and kind words during this very difficult time for me.

As most of you may know, my 15-year-old son, Michael, was involved in a tragic, fatal accident on May 29, 2010 at Stonewall Jackson Lake. We have come to know the cause as “Electric Shock Drowning.” I’ve come to learn this is more common than most people know and I want to educate everyone on this horrible tragedy that CAN be prevented with education. Please read this article to learn more about ESD:

http://www.boatus.com/seaworthy/kritz.asp

I know that a lot of you are members of Facebook. There is also a group on Facebook entitled “Electric Shock Drowning.” Please follow this link to join:

Facebook Group: Electric Shock Drowning

You can also search for the name of the group under “groups.” Our goal as family members and friends who have lost loved ones to this tragic beast is to educate as many people as we can and our personal goal is to obtain 5000 members of this group.  We are getting there but we only have approx 3500 so far.

Please read the article to become familiar with this preventable tragedy during this time of year when so many people are enjoying the water, and please pass the word as well as join our group on Facebook. In addition, please ask all your friends on Facebook to become members of the Electronic Shock Drowning group as well. Thank you and have a safe summer!

-Amy

Me Prayers, We & Us Prayers, and Them Prayers

Not all “me prayers” are bad. Certainly we all have times when we personally need God’s help. We all have times when our prayer is for “me”, or when our prayer requests of others focus on our own needs. The Bible does not preclude all such prayer as selfish. James wrote, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him” (James 5:14-15).

However, if you take a survey of all the prayers you pray, of all the posts you submit here on our Prayer Wall, and of all your prayer requests at church… are they dominated by selfish “me” prayers? Or do you have a healthy mix of praying for the salvation of lost souls, and praying for the real needs of hurting people outside your own circle of acquaintances?

All prayers could perhaps be classed into three categories: Me Prayers, We & Us Prayers, and Them Prayers. The “me” prayers are obviously related to oneself personally. The “we & us” prayers are moving out of self, although still perhaps focused on my church, my family, or my friends–in other words, “my” circle of acquaintances; still possibly somewhat selfish. But consider “them” prayers: Prayer not just for friends, but for enemies. Prayer for hurting people who, while not my enemies, are not personally known to me. Hurting people in Haiti. Suffering people in China. Lost people everywhere.

The very words “prayer request” seem a little redundant. The word pray means to make a request or offer a petition, and the noun prayer means the request or petition offered. But really, when we make a request for prayer, we’re asking someone else to ask something of the Lord. We are asking fellow askers to ask the Lord for something on our behalf. It is entirely possible that at times you will need help and either be too sick to pray or simply not know how to pray as needed. James mentions (v. 15) that not only healing but also forgiveness of sins can be obtained by having the elders of the church to pray over you in Jesus name, along with laying on of hands and anointing you with oil. Cool beans. That is awesome. He says to “call for” them to come and do that.

By contrast however, consider the moment that the bleeding (and nearly bled-out) Christ prayed for His executioners, even as He personally experienced intense suffering and was near the point of death: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots” (Luke 23:34).

Now that’s a “them” prayer!

A Concern For Others

Thetus TenneyBy Thetus Tenney
Former Coordinator for the World Network of Prayer

It was a day like most days. A long list of things to do pushed me hard and fast. I shuffled priorities and still there were things left undone.

The plane was half an hour late, so I had time for a quick bite to eat. Sitting in the small airport restaurant alone, my ears, as well as my eyes, became people conscious. The phone rang behind the counter. Just a shade of relief gradually spread over the worried face of the waitress. A slightly encouraging report from the hospital said there would be no surgery, at least not now.

Later that day, I was standing at one of a long line of telephones in the terminal. I was not eavesdropping, just “ear conscious” of people around me. The lady next to me was desperately trying to encourage someone who seemed near a nervous breakdown. On the other side, a young man stood talking, pleading. It was very evident that there had already been a breakdown of communication in his family. A middle-aged lady passed by; her drooping face and staring eyes spoke of troubled sadness.

I recall a brief encounter with a frightened young woman in the terminal who was traveling to visit a severely handicapped and mentally impaired child in an institution. I offered my help. Politely, she said, “No.”

I offered a prayer.

Eagerly, she said, “Please do.”

A sampling of strangers; many of them so sad. The anxiety of all the “things” left undone had been replaced with a “people concern.” I thanked Him for stopping me and sending me off alone. Forced quiet and ‘un-busyness’ let me hear again with my heart. I felt one with Him as we saw the people and were moved with compassion.

The world is hurting. I cannot heal it, but my presence, my touch, my smile, a word, or a prayer can be a small application of the balm of Gilead. I am not the Great Physician, but I can be a sensitive nurse and follow the Doctor’s orders.

“As ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).

What are you doing to touch your world today?

Becoming A Prayer Missionary

For those of you who have never heard this term, a prayer missionary is someone who takes on (or adopts) a country, a geographical area, or a specific unreached people group and starts praying on a daily and systematic basis. A prayer missionary does not physically go to the mission field (except if he or she goes on a prayer journey), but performs the work of prayer from his or her home or place of work. In this way the prayer missionary can prepare the harvest field so that the seed sown by missionaries will fall on good soil. A prayer missionary is part of God’s fighting team in the struggle against the kingdom of the darkness. He is a co-worker with missionaries, because without those who pray, missionaries cannot be effective.

According to Bennie Mostert, “The advantage of being a prayer missionary is that one manages to get into places and countries where the preaching of the gospel is prohibited. No one can prevent the prayers of the prayer missionary from having an effect across the borders of countries or over large distances.” Mostert, in his book, Change Your World through Prayer, gives several guidelines to anyone who wishes to become a prayer missionary:

  • A prayer missionary may be any believer who sees his way open to do the work of prayer as commissioned by the Lord. Just as a missionary commits to one term or a lifetime of service, you will need to make a commitment to pray – one year, three years or as long as it takes for your nation or people group to be reached for Christ.
  • Ask God to show you which country he would like you to do your mission work in. Pray for different countries each day until you gradually develop affection for one or more nation and/or its people. Perhaps God will lay it upon your heart to pray for Muslims, or for one particular people group within a country, etc.
  • Begin to do research on your country or people group, watching the paper, news, magazines, etc. Find out the leaders of the nation and what religion(s) are practiced there. Begin keeping a file of information that will help you pray in an informed, specific way.
  • Pray for the leaders of that nation – for their conversion and that they will govern wisely and with mercy.
  • Pray for missionaries, pastors and church leaders in that nation, and for the firm establishment and growth of Christ’s Church in their midst.
  • Pray for the unsaved, as well as for the believers and new converts.
  • Pray for revival in the church in that nation.
  • Pray for unity in the body of Christ.
  • Pray for open doors so that the Word may be spread rapidly and thoroughly.

Remember to thank God continually as He works!

Darrien and Marlyn Alicea is a brilliant young couple who are youth pastors in the New York Metro District. I had the distinct privilege to interview them both recently. They have implemented a rather innovative youth prayer schedule based on II Chronicles 7:14. It is entitled “Operation 7:14.” This prayer program requires every youth in their local church to pray for 14 minutes a day, 7 days a week. On July 14, 2010 their youth group will have completed 100 days of prayer i.e. “Operation 7:14″ having begun in March of this year. Darrien told me that he often texts the youth at either 7:14 am or 7:14 pm to remind them to “get in” their “14 minutes of prayer” before the day ends and that God is doing a wonderful work in the lives of his young people.

I pray that all our young people, as well as adults can be infected with “Operation 7:14,” and will live a life burning with passion for God.” My prayer is that we burn for Jesus and that through our passion we can give Jesus Christ “the fame”.” Darrien anchored the interview with such passion by saying, “And most of all, we pray that our nation will come to repentance.”

Thank you Darrien and Marlyn for your innovative concept of “Operation 7:14” Think about it, folks! A mere 14 minutes a day in pray for revival! More to follow…

Don’t forget the International Prayer Conference – “Summons to Sacrifice,” beginning next week Thursday, June 10th. Meet me in St. Louie, Louie! Teri Spears made a great suggestion to the planning committee. She said, “Instead of having a teaching session on Thursday afternoon, June 10, why don’t we just PRAY! Let’s do what we have come to do!” Thank you Teri, for the great idea and your tremendous involvement in “Summons to Sacrifice” over the years.

Meet us Thursday, June 10 at 2:00 pm as we petition the Lord in a time of intercessory prayer.

WORLD NEEDS

sinkholeGUATEMALA CITYFlooding and landslides from the season’s first tropical storm have killed at least 150 people and made thousands homeless in Central America, officials said. Dozens of people were missing and emergency crews struggled to reach isolated communities cut off by washed-out roads and collapsed bridges caused by Tropical Storm Agatha.

The hardest-hit country was Guatemala, where officials reported 123 dead and at least 90 missing.

One of the most dramatic illustrations of the storm’s impact was in the capital city where a 3-story building collapsed into a massive sinkhole.

In the department of Chimaltenango – a province west of Guatemala City – landslides buried dozens of rural Indian communities and killed at least 60 people, Gov. Erick de Leon said. “The department has collapsed,” de Leon said. “There are a lot of dead people. The roads are blocked. The shelters are overflowing. We need water, food, clothes, blankets – but above all, money.”

In the tiny village of Parajbei, a slide smothered three homes and killed 11 people. “It was raining really hard and there was a huge noise,” said Vicente Azcaj, 56, who ran outside and saw that a hill had crumbled. “Now everyone is afraid that the same will happen to their homes.”

Volunteers from nearby villages worked nonstop since Sunday to recover the bodies in Parajbei, and on Monday they found the last two: brothers, 4 and 8 years old, who were buried under tons of dirt, rocks and trees. As a thank-you, rescuers got a plate of rice and beans from the mayor of nearby Santa Apolonia. “It’s a small thing, but it comes from the heart,” Tulio Nunez told them through a translator. Nunez said he worried about the well-being of survivors in the area because landslides blocked roads and broke water pipes. “They don’t have anything to drink,” he said.

In all some 110,000 people were evacuated in Guatemala.

In El Salvador, 11,000 people were evacuated. The death toll rose to 10 and two others were missing, President Mauricio Funes said Monday night. About 95 percent of the country’s roads were affected by landslides, but most remained open, Transportation Minister Gerson Martinez said. He said 179 bridges had been wrecked.

The Lempa River, which flows to the Pacific, topped its banks and flooded at least 20 villages, affecting some 6,000 people, said Jorge Melendez, director of the Civil Protection Agency. Officials warned that the Acelhuate River, which cuts through San Salvador, was running at dangerously high levels and threatened to spill over into the capital’s streets. Melendez said classes would be suspended Tuesday in all primary and secondary schools and public and private universities across El Salvador.

Agatha made landfall near the Guatemala-Mexico border Saturday as a tropical storm with winds up to 45 mph. It dissipated the following day over the mountains of western Guatemala. Rescue efforts in Guatemala have been complicated by a volcanic eruption Thursday near the capital that blanketed parts of the area with ash.

HOW TO PRAY FOR YOUR LOCAL CHURCH

The uplifting and refreshing presence of God is upon a church where God’s people have humbled themselves to pray!

When we were born again, we were born into a family-our church family (Ephesians 3:15, John 1:12-13). God purposed this inter-relationship for our spiritual good. We need each other in united prayer and prayer warfare. (See Acts 2:42 and James 5:16 .)
